Setting Chart Borders & Margins
Video Transcript
In this video, we're going to talk about how to set and adjust chart borders. The next part I'd like you to be aware of is that Track and Trade has imaginary borders. If you want to imagine, there is a border above, a border on the right-hand side, which gives you this working area, and then a border on the bottom side that provides a little margin at the bottom. So, these are your margins, and you’ll notice that the chart is centered within those margins.
To set these margins, you’ll notice little arrows within the margins—one on the top, one on the right, and another on the bottom. These arrows define the borders, allowing you to move them up or down. For example, you can slide the upper margin, grab and slide the lower margin, or adjust the margin on the right to increase or decrease the margin size.
Now, look up in the button bar for a button that looks like a price chart; this is called "Center Chart." If I hit "Center Chart," it will stretch the chart to fit within the borders, which you can adjust as you like. If you want less margin, you can make your chart narrower. For example, if you make the chart skinny, hitting "Center Chart" will place the chart within those newly created margins. You can modify them, making the margins as big as you need, and give yourself extra working room on the right side. Pressing "Center Chart" again will fit the chart within these customized margins.
To save these settings so that they apply to every new chart you open, right-click on the chart and select "Save and Apply Settings to All Charts." Now, all of your charts will have the same border settings.
The next feature to be aware of is the "Center Chart" button I mentioned. If we right-click on the chart, you’ll notice an option for "Auto Scale," which is checked by default. If I make any manual adjustment to the chart, it will automatically disable "Auto Scale." For instance, if I manually adjust the scale, right-click, and check, you'll see that "Auto Scale" is now off. To turn it back on, simply click it again, and the chart will scale back to fit within the set borders.
If I right-click to turn off "Auto Scale" or adjust the chart manually, then click the "Center Chart" button, "Auto Scale" will be enabled again. However, when manually changing the scale, "Auto Scale" automatically turns off, so to re-enable it, just click it again.
