Scaling and Scrolling Charts

Video Transcript

In this video, I want to explain how to scale and scroll your chart. If you look at the bottom of your chart, you’ll see a date line, and on the right-hand side, you have a price line. If you look closely, down the center of both bars, there is a light gray line. Vertically, there’s a gray line, and across the bottom, there’s a horizontal gray line.

If you place your cursor above the gray line, hold down the left mouse button, and move your chart back and forth. If you slide your cursor below the gray line and hold down the left mouse button, you can shrink and grow your chart. On the vertical price bar, you can do the same thing. If you’re on the left-hand side of the vertical line, hold down the left mouse button, and move your cursor up and down to shift the chart up and down on the screen. If you move your cursor to the right side of that gray vertical line, you’ll shrink and grow the chart.

This feature gives you great control over how to move, scale, and scroll your chart on the screen. There are a couple of quick buttons as well. In the top right-hand corner, you’ll see an arrow that lets you move the chart up and down. You can also use the plus and minus buttons on the right side of the gray line to enlarge or reduce the chart. At the bottom, you can scroll left by clicking the left arrow and scroll right by clicking the right arrow. You can also enlarge or shrink the chart using the arrows.

Another feature in the software is the "Directional Movement" button, located in the button bar and looking like a little crosshair. If you press this button, you can move the chart in any direction, giving you full control over its placement. A shortcut to this button is to hold down the Control key. While pressing Control, your cursor changes to a handle, allowing you to drag the chart around. When you release Control, the cursor reverts to an arrow.

There are additional shortcuts under "View." If you go to "View" and scroll down, you’ll find an option to "Enable On-Chart Scaling and Scrolling." Yours might already be on, but if not, you can enable it here. This allows you to click directly on the chart with the left mouse button, making the chart larger or smaller simply by dragging it up and down. This gives you further control using only the cursor.

If you disable "Enable On-Chart Scaling and Scrolling," this control is removed from the main chart, but you can still use it within the indicator window. Inside the indicator window, you can scroll and scale the chart horizontally and vertically. This gives you another method of scaling and scrolling if you prefer using the indicator window for navigation.

This is just a quick overview of using scaling and scrolling in Track and Trade!
