How to Use the Preference Tab

Video Transcript

In this video, we're going to discuss the Preferences tab. The Preferences tab is a very dynamic tab because it works with almost every tool in Track 'n Trade, and it changes automatically depending on what tool you're using and selecting.

So, for example, if we want to come over and simply draw an arrow tool, if we click on the Preferences tab and we have the Preferences tab selected, and we click on the Arrow tool, you'll notice when I draw the arrow, I now have the preferences for the arrow in the control panel.

What if I draw a Fibonacci ruler? If I click on the Fibonacci button, as soon as I click on the Fibonacci ruler, I then have in the control panel all the preferences for the Fibonacci ruler.

If I would like the preferences for an indicator, all I have to do is click in the indicator window. That indicator that's active, if you have the Preferences tab selected, will pop up, and you can have all the preferences for that indicator. You'll notice in the indicator window we have two indicators listed, so over here on the right-hand side, there are two tiles. You can see CAD, which stands for the Accumulation Distribution Indicator that I have displayed, and I have CMF. When I click, it pulls up the CMF. If I would like the AD, I just click that tile, and it'll bring me the settings for the Williams Accumulation Distribution (AD).The same applies with volume. Volume is down in the bottom window. All I have to do is click on it, and it'll bring up the preferences for the volume. I can also click on the little tile, and that would have done the same thing.

So, that's a quick way of getting to almost any settings within the Preferences tab. But I want to show you one way of getting into the Chart tab preferences. This changes the look and feel of the charts themselves. You can right-click on the chart, slide down to Chart Preferences, and this brings up a Chart Preferences tab in the Preferences window. Of course, this window allows you to change and adjust all of the different settings within the chart and how the chart looks.

Now, I want to bring your attention to one specific feature in this tab because sometimes this confuses people. You'll notice up here, if you read at the top, it says "Chart Time Frame: 5 Minutes." Then, if you'll notice right here, it says "Settings for 5-Minute Charts." If I want to change just the five-minute chart, now I can come in and change whatever is inside that box, and that's going to be the settings for just the five-minute chart. If I change this to, say, the one-minute chart, you'll notice the header changes to "Settings for 1-Minute Chart," and I can have different settings for just the one-minute chart.

All the settings below will be universal—these will work on all charts—but when you want to work on one individual chart, you can set up the preferences inside of just this box for that one chart. That's what that header does. If we come out here to the daily chart, you'll notice that you have just the header and the information inside that box for just the daily chart.

One of the most important features of the Preferences tab is that you have these four buttons at the top. You'll notice that the first one is set to "Restore Settings to TNT Defaults." If you click that button, everything in this window will restore to the factory defaults, the way it was set when you installed the software. My Defaults are what you change it to—you change something and then you can hit Save as My Defaults, and then that will make "My Defaults" be whatever those settings are.

You can also click Update All Charts. So, for example, if you make a change in here, let's say, for example, we go to Open-High-Low-Close, and we then say "Update All Charts," it's going to make all the charts in the chart book follow these defaults.
